The fund primarily is meant to sponsor a child through a scholarship fund that pays their tuition fees, provides text books, school bags and other school materials things to orphans and other underprivileged children and youth in Gbawe community. It is targeted to reach out to 100 children by the end of 2016.
What is the issue, problem, or challenge?
The Gbawe Community has only one Public Primary and Junior High Schools that cannot offer admission for all the children in the community. The other private schools including a Montessori School are there for profit purposes and local parents are unable to pay. Therefore children in the community that want to attend school either need to pay school fees or under an extreme risk to be forced into working.
How will this project solve this problem?
The scholarship fund would to pay tuition fees for 20 children in 2014 extending its reach to 100 children by 2016. School fees are $90 USD per term, with 3 school terms per academic year. The Scholarship Fund will help children to purchase text books, school bags, pens, pencils and calculators that beneficiaries need until the Family Learning Centre is fully funded. In the absence of the Family Learning Centre out of the scholarship fund would continues to sponsor the needy to acquire education and other trade skills from other places until the project takes off. For instance as of now four children are enjoying the sponsorship package.
Potential Long Term Impact
It is expected that children who would otherwise could have been dropout from the school system due to circumstances beyond their control would now through the project grow to become responsible citizens and lead a normal life and contribute to the community development instead of becoming unemployed, thieves and other social misfits.
