The story

We believe in the power of education and empowering children to transform their lives

Summary:

Although there is a fair equity school attendance between boys and girls in Ghana, girls’ education should not be overlooked as an important element for inclusiveness. Girls are more likely to drop out of school to help with family care and housework. The distance to school and poor school conditions can also prevent children from attending. We are committed to providing education, in a safe environment, to all children in Gbawe regardless of their gender or socio-economic background.

Challenge

In Gbawe, apart from the lack of public schools, there are several other aspects that undermine the universal right to education to these children. Poverty tends to make it more difficult for children to reach school, as families perceive generating more household in more important than education. The rate of drop-out in these cases is also higher. Distance to school and poor school conditions can also prevent children from attending.

Solution

To tackle these constraints, PAAJAF understands that our school must provide both a safe space to learn and a high-quality education that promotes inclusiveness. PAAJAF priorities are to provide a quality education, spaces for playing, healthy meals and sanitation facilities.

PAAJAF also wants to ensure teachers are equipped to teach diverse students who learn at their own pace.

Long-term Impact

By creating a healthy, comfortable and safe schooling environment, children are more likely to attend and be prevented from dropping out. While at school, children will feel welcomed in their own learning process. Children will be encouraged to develop their competencies and acquire new skills at their own pace. This will be achieved without being marginalized by their background, gender or learning ability.
